The mission of FOSTER YOUR COMMUNITY is to “show gratitude for all we’ve been given by supporting those who need it most" through our FOSTER YOUR COMMUNITY Drives.

 

We're in the process of launching a series of “drives” to support the Foster Community in a variety of ways. The very first drive that we're launching in September 2020 is the “First Night Comfort Kit” Drive, which is meant to ease the trauma of a child's first night stay in a new Foster Home. Through these drives, we're asking community members to donate specific items at drop locations that will be used to assemble the kits. Those kits will then be donated to County Social Services or another organization that works with the Foster Community to distribute the kits to the Foster Community.

 

Our ultimate goal is to recruit community members throughout North Dakota (and beyond) who want to collaborate with FOSTER YOUR COMMUNITY to create “subgroups” and host ANY of the suggested drives at any time in their community with our support, depending on the specific needs of their community at any given time as it relates to Foster Care. Those subgroups would then be specific to that community. For example, FosterGrandForks, FosterFargo, FosterJamestown, FosterBismarck, and so forth!

 

The need to support the Foster Community is only increasing. To give you an idea, one small county in one state took in 25 children in just 9 days! From the onset of COVID, we knew the time would eventually come where we’d see a significant increase in the number of children entering the Foster Care system. Unfortunately, that time is here, and we need to do what we can to support the Foster Community, especially the children. Whether they’re a Foster Family or not, these drives are an easy and tangible way for community members to support these kiddos and the overall Foster Community.
